Hugh P. Timlin b. 1945

Hugh Timlin, born in Detroit, began his study in sculpture and metals at the Society of Arts and Crafts in 1967. In 1968 he changed from paths to study English at Wayne State University for one year. Timlin returned to school at the Center for Creative Studies in 1975 and received his BFA in sculpture in 1977. He has taught sculpture at the Birmingham Bloomfield Art Association, Mercy College of Detroit, and the Center for Creative Studies.

In addition to "Art for Life" in Southfield Michigan in 1990, his exhibitions include shows at the Michigan Gallery, Midland Center for the Arts, the Detroit Artists Market, the Cade Gallery and Center for Creative Studies. Timlin has also exhibited in the art Exhibition for the National Conference on Religious Architecture in Washingtin D.C. in 1970 and in Boston in 1976. He participated in an exhibition of drawing and small sculpture at Ball State University in 1980.

Timlin received scholarships from the Center for Creative Studies and the Penland School of Crafts in Penland, North Carolina. In 1977 the sculptor was awarded the Mengal Award frr BronzeCasting, and in 1979 was Best of Show at the "Somerset Invitational" in Troy, Michigan. In 1980 Timlin placed third in the " All Michigan art Exhibition" in Battlecreek, Michigan. His work has been commissioned for Hutzel hospital and Our Lady of the Rosary Church in Detroit, Lansing General Hospital, and Temple Beth Israel in Flint. He appears in the 1990 " Art in America Guide to American Museums, Galleries and Artists".
