Do you remember?
In Celebration of Five Year's Of Creative Living, detroit contemporary Presents:

The 2003-2004 Season Premiere:

"Sight; Sonic the art of music" (It's back and ready to be cracked like a vintage wine!)

Where it Started

"Sight;Sonic is based on a very simple idea: that the visual and the aural arts are inseparable. The relation, always there but not always seen or talked about, is that many visual artists couldn?t dream of creating without the inspiration found in music; and of course that many makers of music find the fine arts a place for ideas and foundation. Detroit is a city where the various artistic communities often exist separate from one another, and our show is a small step at bringing more of our fundamentally like-minded talents to each others direct attention..."

-David Hartman and Aaron Timlin, 1998

On November 14th, 1998 detroit contemporary officially opened its doors to the public for the first time with "Sight;Sonic the art of music". Five years later we are pleased to present homage to our first steps with a reunion of these artists under the same roof and pretext. Without these artists and the help of David Hartman, who performed in and curated the exhibition in coordination with d.c. founder, Aaron Timlin, detroit contemporary would not be what it is today. Please join us in celebration and recognition of our past, present and future! detroit contemporary welcomes the public to this free opening reception and six week exhibition. The show opens at 6pm on September 13, 2002 with music performances running throughout the evening. Additional performances will be presented on Oct. 18th 2003 beginning at 8:00pm.

The public is invited to send us stories and memorabilia of detroit contemporary which will be posted on our website and walls. A timeline will snake through the Trailer Galleries preventing us from ignoring the narrative history has to speak through hand-made posters, show cards, photos of livestock, and those moments we thought we forgot made out of, maybe, a folded dollar bill. However, the evolution of each artist's work will undoubtedly be the best looking glass (or hearing trumpet!) for our artistic community today to "gaze" thoughtfully.
