The roots of modern dance music. An evening of futuristic music(s) from the
underground, circa 1976-1983. (In the lives of many) boundaries we're
blurred, barriers destroyed and hybrids born. The utopian dream of a new,
future world, flourished in clubs like the Paradise Garage, the Loft and the
Mudd Club. An assault on mainstream tastes and ideals. A reaction to the
harsh realities of real life. This ideal was reflected in the music being
played. Post-Punk funk, New wave disco, Breakin', Synth-pop, Electro, Disco
rap, Industrial... A convergence of genres, politics and lifestyles,
creating a new attitude and with it, a new sound. Cold and impersonal, warm
and organic, gay, straight, angry, ecstatic, black, white, male, female,
etc.
