Art and music stay up all night with detroit contemporary's final show of the season: ...the kitchen sink. The Show Participating artists were invited to dig through the bowels of detroit contemporary to create works of art simply from the materials and resources they found, thus this show is titled (and includes) "...the kitchen sink."! detroit contemporary hosts this 168-hour show of installation, 2-D and 3-D art opening on May 25th and running straight through to June 1st. And I do mean "straight through". detroit contemporary will be open for 24hrs every day of the week with music/performance every night as well as daytime events in the sculpture garden. In addition, Saturday, June 1st, Clark Warner will grace us with a 4-hour atmospheric set from 4pm until 8pm. A live set by John Ryan will be from 8pm to 9pm with Ron Zakrin as Goudron closing the week-long celebration at 9pm. Participating Artists Installation and Time-Based Robert Andersen takes hold of d.c's technology to create an ongoing, narrative formed by events throughout the week. Coco Bruner displays a video documentary of d.c and its past as well as creating a table-setting for us to reflect upon the direction of our future. Anne Harrington Hughes and Steve Hughes surprise us with their literal interpretation of "...the kitchen sink". Kai Kim creates an environment that draws upon Korean Shamanism in a contemporary form and Ron Zakrin asks us to take a good look at ourselves in the unisex bathroom. Painting and Sculpture In the nature of art in the era of post-industrialism; artists transfigure materials, (a red bowling ball, plastic spoons, blue paper, floor tiles, bakery signs, house paint) which are the lint in detroit contemporary's navel, into luscious paintings and well-crafted sculptures. Participating artists include: Kamil Antos, Robert Bielat, Jeanne R. Bieri, Philip Burke, Tim Caldwell, Free Multi-Medium, Inc., Maurice Greenia, Scott Hocking, Tom Humes, Coley McLean, Todd E. Mitchell, Teresa Petersen, Mark Porter, Jaron Rothcop, Nolan Simon, Daniel Timlin, Melissa A. Vandenberg, and Rick Vian. The Gallery This one-week art exhibition runs from Saturday, May 25th through Saturday, June 1, 2002 with an opening reception to meet the artists on Saturday, May 25th, from 6pm to 10pm and a closing potluck reception on Saturday, June 1, 2002 from 6pm to 10pm.
