The Embroidered Baby Bird (robin) work continues the exploration of my attraction and repulsion of found dead animals and insects. The (almost) absurd act of me embroidering 'feathers' on this fledgling is a simultaneous act of adoration and brutality.
LEESA BRINGAS is an emerging visual artist working in the areas of photography and mixed media with an emphasis on preservation and manipulation of organic materials. She recently showcased new mixed media works involving taxidermied birds and a series of embroidered baby birds preserved in formalin in January 2001 at Common Ground Gallery in Windsor. Leesa received her BFA at the University of Windsor, School of Visual Arts in 1999. Leesa is the former Administration Assistant at Artcite Inc. (Windsor), an artist-run centre for the contemporary arts and currently is on their board of directors.
