HARVEST GOLD Art in an apartment setting of rescued and recycled furnishings and house wares. In this installation, we want to give extended use to those tossed off items and, at the end of the show, the room will be dismantled and the furnishings distributed to the viewers. In this way the viewers are invited to give their own, new, use to the furnishings rescued from the curbside. In addition to being fun, we think that this will call attention to the fact that so much that is useful is discarded based on today?s precept of mass consumption relative to current marketing tactics that tap consumer desire as opposed to need. The recycling of items from the curbside to installation to viewer?s homes stand in stark contrast to the 20th (and 21st) Century phenomenon of planned obsolescence.
